Glossary term
Running AI on local devices or nearby hardware instead of in a distant data center.
Edge AI runs models on or near the device where data is produced, such as a camera, car, factory machine or phone, instead of sending everything to a distant data center.
It reduces delay, saves bandwidth and keeps raw data local, but the hardware is limited, so models must be small and efficient.
It enables real-time and private AI where connectivity is limited or delay matters.
