Glossary term
The date after which a model has no training data, so it does not know later events.
A model's knowledge cutoff is the date its training data ends. It generally knows nothing about later events unless given tools such as search.
The cutoff is usually several months before release, and models are not always accurate about their own cutoff.
A model may confidently describe an outdated situation, so time-sensitive questions need retrieval or search.
