A diffusion approach that works in a compressed latent space to generate images efficiently.
Running diffusion on full-resolution pixels is expensive. Latent diffusion first compresses images into a much smaller latent space with an autoencoder, does the denoising there, and then decodes the result back to pixels.
That makes high-quality generation feasible on consumer hardware.
It is the approach behind many popular image generators.
