Machine learning that uses neural networks with many layers to learn complex patterns from large amounts of data.
Deep learning uses neural networks with many layers. Each layer transforms its input a little, and stacking many layers lets the network build up from simple features, such as edges in an image, to complex ones, such as faces.
It needs a lot of data and computing power, which is why GPUs and other accelerators matter so much to the field.
Early layers learn simple patterns; later layers combine them into concepts.
Deep learning powers modern image recognition, speech recognition, translation and large language models.
