Glossary term
The European Union's regulation that sets rules for AI systems according to their level of risk.
The EU AI Act is a European regulation that sorts AI systems by risk. Unacceptable-risk uses are banned, high-risk systems face strict requirements, some systems carry transparency duties and minimal-risk uses are largely free. General-purpose models have their own obligations.
Obligations phase in over several years, and the rules apply to companies serving the EU market.
It is the most comprehensive AI law so far and influences rules and company practices worldwide.
