Identifying names of people, places, organizations and other entities in text.
Named entity recognition finds mentions of people, organizations, places, dates and other entities in text and labels their type. In 'Anthropic opened an office in London in 2026', it would tag an organization, a place and a date. It is a first step in turning text into structured data.
Each highlighted span is an entity with a type.
