Glossary term
Algorithms inspired by the collective behavior of groups such as ants or bees.
Swarm algorithms take inspiration from groups such as ants, bees or birds, where simple individuals following local rules produce smart collective behavior. Particle swarm optimization, for instance, has candidate solutions move through the search space influenced by their own and the group's best finds. No central control is needed.
They offer decentralized ways to optimize and to coordinate groups of robots.
