Symbolic AI, also called classical or 'good old-fashioned' AI, represents knowledge with explicit symbols and logical rules and reasons by manipulating them. It dominated early AI research.
It is precise and explainable but struggles with messy real-world data, where learned models excel.
Its ideas live on in planning, theorem proving and in hybrid systems that combine reasoning with learning.
