Glossary term
A formal description of the concepts in a domain and how they relate.
An ontology is a formal description of the concepts in a domain and how they relate: categories, properties and relationships. In medicine, for instance, it might state that a 'fracture' is a kind of 'injury' that occurs in a 'bone'. It gives people and programs a shared vocabulary.
